Hulk (Dr. Bruce Banner) — a fictional superhero appearing in publications by Marvel Comics. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, he first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962) and has since become one of Marvel's most recognisable characters. After physicist Bruce Banner was exposed to gamma radiation in the explosion of a bomb he had designed, he transformed into the Hulk — a raging, immensely powerful monster. Both as Banner and as the Hulk, the character is frequently pursued by the police or the military, often because of the destruction he causes. His temperament is always volatile and fierce. Although the character's skin colour has changed over the publication history, the Hulk is most commonly depicted as green. Over four decades he has clashed with virtually every hero and villain in the Marvel Universe.
